Demonstration of knife painting

MILFORD, PA — Pike County Arts and Crafts invites its members and the public to its monthly First Sunday Art Demo on October 6 at 1:30 p.m. at Borough Hall. This month will feature artist George Hayes from Warwick, NY, demonstrating palette knife painting.

The demonstration will include an overview of different painting knives, how to hold and use them and the advantages of using them to create pieces of art. He will demonstrate by creating a painting from start to finish, while explaining the technique and answering questions during and after the demonstration.

Hayes began his career as a commercial artist. After serving in the Army during Vietnam, he went on to study and receive a degree in industrial design from Pratt Institute. After college he became interested in technical illustration, a field he worked for many years, and had his own business as a freelance designer/technical illustrator. Hayes studies at the Wallkill River School of Art, is a past board-of-directors member and now teaches both palette knife technique and perspective classes at the school.
