HONESDALE, PA — At the 2012 Wayne County Junior 4-H Livestock Sale, which took place at the Wayne County Fair on Saturday, August 11, $264,373 worth of market animals crossed the auction block for a sale of 223 hogs, 50 lambs, 55 goats and 40 steers. Over 200 buyers supported 4-H members from start to finish. Since 1998, the sale has supported scholarships for local 4-H members. Scholarship funds are provided largely by “buy backs,” when animals are purchased at the auction, then donated back for resale to benefit the scholarship fund. Since 1998, 225 scholarships for a total of nearly $245,000 have been given to qualified applicants.

Delaware Valley Farm and Garden, Callicoon, NY, outbid all other buyers at the sale with over $8,000 spent. Pioneer Construction, Waymart Milling Company of Waymart and Dirlam Brothers Lumber, with locations in Pennsylvania and Narrowsburg, NY, came next, bidding nearly $7,000 each in the sale. Purchasing over $5000 worth of livestock was Burleigh Construction, Pleasant Mount; RTS Truck Center/Valley Sand and Gravel (Ron Scull), Beach Lake; and Highlights for Children, Honesdale.
