LIVINGSTON MANOR, NY — The Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum’s (CFFCM) annual Summerfest and Anglers Market started as a one day event in 1985. It has since grown into one of the largest summer fly fishing fairs anywhere.

The Anglers Market this year opens on Saturday, August 4, with over 100 tables of fly fishing tackle, accessories, collectibles and outdoors sports-related items, and introduces local community vendors of crafts, home products and services. It will be open on Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Part of Summerfest, the Second Annual Hardy Cup Bamboo Rodcasting Competition, will start on Saturday, with 2011 winner Maseke Takemoto will be on hand to defend his title. The casting competition will begin at 9:30 a.m. and end at 5 p.m. on Saturday, and continue on Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. At 6 p.m. on Saturday, Hardy/Greys North America LTD will provide a pig roast for everyone at no charge.

The announcement of winners and presentation of the Hardy Cup will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, in coordination with Jubilee Day—celebrating birthdays, anniversaries and life milestones—with cake for everyone. A 50/50 fish race will be held on the Willowemoc River Sunday at 1 p.m.

This year, a couple of educational events have been added to the weekend festival and market. On Friday, August 3, from 10 a.m. to early afternoon, you can have an opportunity to make your own fly reel in a Reelsmithing Workshop with The Eclectic Angler, Michael Hackney, in the Paul Dahlie Education Center. On Monday and Tuesday, August 6 and 7, there will be a bamboo rod makers’ seminar and workshop presented by Tom Moran and Calum Gladstone, master rodmakers from Hardy in cooperation with the CFFCM. It is open to all levels of bamboo rodmakers and those interested in the craft. Pre-registration is required, an the two-day fee of $225 includes some family-style meals.
