Liberty Museum displays Cobalt, larger than life

LIBERTY, NY — The larger-than-life theatrical artwork of Cobalt Studios will herald the season opening of the Liberty Museum & Arts Center on Saturday, April 21 with a meet-the-artists reception on Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m. A tradition at the museum, the annual display of work produced by Cobalt’s advanced students features realistic paintings designed as backdrops for all types of theatrical presentations.

Located in White Lake, Cobalt Studios offers one of the country’s few professional training programs in scenic backdrop design and execution. Unlike traditional fine art, where artists create work purely at their own direction, scenic artists are working to execute someone else’s vision dictated by the needs of the show or production for which they are commissioned. The show is curated by professional designer and a founding board member of the museum, Sharon Green. The Liberty Museum is located at 46 South Main Street in the village of Liberty, just across the street from the movie theater. The regular hours are Friday and Saturday from 12 noon until 4 p.m., and admission is free.
