HONESDALE, PA — The Wayne County Arts Alliance will screen the classic 1944 movie “To Have and Have Not,” a steamy romance starring Humphrey Bogart and 19-year-old Lauren Bacall in her first movie role, on Valentine’s Day, February 14 at 8:15 p.m. at the Cinema 6 theater in the Route 6 Mall.

Loosely based on a novel by Ernest Hemingway, the film is set in Martinique shortly after the fall of France to the Germans early in World War II; Bogart plays a world-weary fishing boat captain and Bacall a young wanderer smitten with him. Director Howard Hawks dramatically expanded Bacall’s role to capitalize on the chemistry between the two, who in real life married the following year.

The suggested donation is $8 in advance and $10 at the door, with proceeds benefiting the Arts Alliance. Advance tickets can be purchased at Cinema 6, at the Arts Alliance office at the Hawley Silk Mill, or at waynecountyartsalliance.org. Visit waynecountyartsalliance.org or call 570/390-4420.
