HONESDALE, PA — The Greater Honesdale Partnership invites all businesses, non-profit and community groups from the greater Honesdale area and beyond to form a New Orleans-style krewe and participate in the fourth annual Mardi Gras on Main on February 18. Musicians are also sought, to play on street corners for donations (which they keep) from the passersby.
During Mardi Gras season in New Orleans, businesses send krewes out on the street that traditionally dress in wild costumes, build a float to promote their business and hold a big parade. This year in Honesdale, the parade will take place on February 18 between 1 and 4 p.m.
Each krewe, once registered, will be scheduled to depart at a specific time that day in order to bring continuous activity to Honesdale’s Main Street.
Participating businesses are also urged to hand out colorful Mardi Gras beads to shoppers they pass on the sidewalks. Pre-registration is required. To participate as a krewe or musician call 570/253-2462 or 253-5492 by February 13.
