CUDDEBACKVILLE, NY — The Neversink Valley Museum of History and Innovation opens its summer season with a new exhibit curated by museum historian Stephen Skye, “The Million Dollar Club: A Partnership of Giants.”
The exhibit started out as an attempt to investigate the often-made claim that the D&H Canal was America’s first million dollar business. It quickly turned into an investigation into the mythology that has grown up around the D&H Canal. In creating a new history for the canal, it became clear that a central part of the story revolved around the successful collaboration between America’s first million dollar businesses: the private anthracite canals and the banking establishment. As today, big banks had a huge impact on the outcome of many business ventures.
The museum is open Friday through Sunday from 12 noon until 4 p.m. through October 28 and by appointment. Visit www.neversinkmuseum.org or call 845/754-8870.
