HORTONVILLE, NY — Harp, viola and flute are on the bill as Weekend of Chamber Music (WCM) ushers in its 18th season with two unique spring concerts: at 2:30 p.m. on April 3 in Hortonville, and at 4 p.m. on April 17 in Brooklyn. Harpist Elaine Christy joins violist Dov Scheindlin and flutist Judith Pearce in both programs, the centerpiece of which is Debussy’s penultimate work, his Sonata for Flute, Viola and Harp.

“We will have an unusually magnificent instrument this year—a Lyon & Healy concert harp—when we welcome Elaine Christy, my colleague from Princeton,” said Judith Pearce, flutist and artistic director of WCM. “Last November, Elaine, Dov and I played our first Debussy Sonata together, a wonderful composition, and the three of us shared a rare experience: our first rehearsal’s ‘play through’ felt and sounded as if we’d been playing together for years.”

On April 3, Debussy’s Sonata for Flute, Viola & Harp, plus music by Nielsen, Bax, Satie and Bach, is slated for the Hortonville Presbyterian Church on County Route 131 (Hankins Road). A short reception with the artists follows the concert. Tickets cost $20, free for students 18 and under, and are available with cash or check at the door.

On April 17, WCM’s annual Brooklyn benefit to support its Artist Coaching Project work in Sullivan County schools will be at 4 p.m. at the private home of WCM’s artistic director.
