Sarah Jane Bartow of Cochecton, NY passed away at home on Monday, July 11, 2011. She was 80.

Sarah was born June 1, 1931 in Long Island, NY, to the late Robert Bartow and Elizabeth Burr Bartow.

“Sarah Belle,” as she was affectionately called, joined Crystal Run Village, Inc. in 1976 in Fallsburg, NY. She moved to her home in Cochecton in 1998.

Sarah was a long-time member of Sullivan County ARC and most recently attended a day care at Roscoe Adult Day Program.  Read more


Wendy Lynn Chemerys of Beach Lake, PA, formerly of Callicoon, NY and a longtime area resident, died Tuesday, July 12, 2011 in Beach Lake. She was 55.

The daughter of the late Hans Sr. and Kathryn Weber Christiansen, she was born November 4, 1955 in Rahway, NJ. She was the widow of Robert Chemerys Sr.

Wendy worked in the Garden Center at the Home Depot in Honesdale, PA.  Read more


Ninetta German of Eldred, NY, passed away on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Sullivan County Adult Care Facility in Liberty, NY. She was 84.

She was born on April 20, 1927 in Clay City, IL, the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Dolly May Birget Scammahorn.

Ninetta retired from the cafeteria department of the Eldred Central School in Eldred. She was a member of the North Milford Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness in Milford, PA and was affiliated with the Congregation of Liberty, NY.  Read more


Eloise D. Illman of Milanville, PA died July 14, 2011. She was 81.

She was born April 2, 1930 and grew up and lived in Midland Park, NJ. She retired with her husband to the family homestead in Milanville.

She is survived by her husband David Illman; son Marc Illman, grandchildren Taylor and Trevor Illman; and sisters Dorothy Regan and Jacki Salem.

Services were held on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Rasmussen Funeral Home, Narrowsburg, NY. Burial followed in Milanville.

Harold “Lou” Rathbun of Middletown, NY, a longtime area resident and retired antique dealer, passed away at home after a long illness on Thursday, July 14, 2011.

The son of the late Oscar and Catherine O’Neill Rathbun, Lou was born in Englewood, NJ.

Lou had a love of anything old and unusual and spent countless hours restoring items and furniture to their original state. He was well known around the Middletown area.  Read more


Ann Carol Vonderhorst Durland of Highland Lake, NY passed away Monday July 18, 2011 at her home. She was 69.

She was born on December 4, 1941 in Callicoon, NY, the daughter of the late Carl E. and Eleanor Williams Vonderhorst.

Ann was a retired secretary for Kimley-Horn Associates in Virginia Beach, VA and later, the acting code enforcement officer for the Town of Highland, NY.  Read more
